Side Emitting LED Strip — Buyer Questions
What is a side emitting LED strip?
It is a board whose packages are rotated so the emitting face sits at 90 degrees to the FPCB: the light leaves the edge of the tape instead of its top surface. DENO builds the range mainly on 3014 side-view packages, from 6 mm to 10 mm PCB width, all on 2 oz copper. The rotated package is why the strip can be laid flat against a substrate and still wash a surface that stands perpendicular to it.

When is side emitting tape specified instead of top emitting?
Three cases dominate: edge-lighting an acrylic or glass panel, where the light has to enter the sheet from its edge; channel letters and signage cabinets, where the strip sits on the return wall and washes the face; and slim reveals, handrails and shelf noses where there is depth for a strip but no depth for a top-emitting run plus diffuser. In all three the fixture gets shallower without losing output.

Which widths, voltages and LED densities are available?
PCB widths run 6, 7.8, 8, 9 and 10 mm; voltages are 5V, 12V and 24V; densities span 60 to 240 LEDs/m and connected load 1.2 to 19.2 W/m. Cut units follow the layout, from 12.5 mm on the 240 LEDs/m 12V board (#7610) up to 100 mm on the 60 LEDs/m RGB board (#9006). The 24V 156 LEDs/m boards (#7073, #4271, #4722) are the volume choice for architectural work at 38.46 mm cut.

How long can one side-view run go on a single feed?
The published limit on the 12V and 24V constant-voltage boards is 5 m fed from one end, or 10 m when the run is fed from both ends. The 5V SPI board (#D8018) drops to 1 m single-feed and 2 m dual-feed because 5V loses voltage far faster over copper. Longer architectural lines are normally split into feeds at a cut point rather than pushed past the rated distance.

Is there an addressable or RGB side-view option?
Yes to both. #9006 is a 24V RGB board at 60 LEDs/m with a 100 mm cut unit, used for colour-change signage returns. #D8018 is a 5V SPI pixel board on 0807 packages at 136 LEDs/m, 7.8 mm wide, Ra 80+, with a 7.35 mm cut — fine enough that an edge-lit letter reads as a continuous animated line rather than separate pixels.

Can an edge-emitting board be cut anywhere, and can it be customised?
Three 2216 boards (#14045 24V, #14046 12V, #14047 5V) are laid out at one LED per 7.142 mm, so they cut at practically any point on a 9 mm PCB; every other model cuts only at its marked unit. Beyond the catalogue, PCB width, LED pitch, copper weight, IP class and connector type are all tooled to order, since the side-view layouts share DENO's existing FPCB stack-ups.
